The other side of this fish tale

Sherry VanDam and her son Jackson join friends and family members in cheering on her husband, Kevin VanDam, at Saturday’s weigh-in for the 2008 Bassmaster Classic at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville. Mr. VanDam caught five fish weighing a total of 11 pounds, 4 ounces to put him in fourth place after the second day of the competition.
GREENVILLE — Sometimes in professional fishing, it’s about the lures, the hooks and the water. And then other times, it’s about the cookies.
And not just any cookie, but Sherry VanDam’s peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies that are rolled in sugar and baked using a family recipe. It’s those cookies that you will find in Kevin VanDam’s boat every time the two-time Bassmaster Classic champ sets out on the water for a fishing tournament. When Ms. VanDam isn’t with her husband, she ships the goodies overnight so they are fresh for his first day on the water.
They have been deemed his “lucky cookies” after one of his buddies and fishing competitors, Davy Hite, experienced a bit of a winning streak after eating them, Ms. VanDam said.
But the cookies are also just one of the ingredients in this fishing champion’s 15-year marriage.

I think food should be a human right before health care. Government sponsored soup kitchens - nothing fancy. I might say housing is more fundamental than health care too - not sure.
I saw Edwards on Charlie Rose, and while I appreciated his overarching theme, it seemed humanly impossible to get him off his overarching theme and into anything remotely approaching specifics. I had a hard time taking him seriously.
For me, the fact that she doesn’t have ties (that I know of) to Halliburton or Blackwater, isn’t in the pocket of religious fundamentalists calling for the abolition of abortion and gay rights and is pro-environment (at least compared to Bush), she would be much, much better. How could any democrat or any republican be any worse than Bush? They guy is a criminal and a liar, and those are the nicest things you can say about him.
Kucinich/Paul/Clinton/Obama foursome ‘08.
“Both candidates might be honest and ideologically consistent, but that isn’t enough to base your vote on.”You are assuming that it is possible to find a surplus of “honest and ideologically consistent” candidates to choose from. We are exceedingly fortunate to have two such candidates in our current crop.
Exactly. That’s why the US has the lowest rate of poverty in the OECD.Oh, wait…
That would be Obama. One of my most favorite values about Obama is his lack of dogmatism, willingness to think about issues, and willingness to consider that people who disagree with him might have some valid points and might be worthy of respect. No, I do not see those values in Kucinich.
Obama/Kucinich 08?That’s my hope anyway.
I’m going to vote for him at least five times in the primary. Oh, I’m in Chicago, so that’s totally legal.
Yes, the one aspect my more conservative friends can’t get their minds around, that there is no useful financial metric for driving the ultimate goal, the best possible health care for the most people. This is the definition of market failure. And this is why we need a not-for-profit model. The industry needs to be aligned to a common, pragmatic goal. Otherwise, we get competing, wasteful interests and double marginalization, i.e. the most expensive health care in the world with crappy results.
She will not close Guantanamo. The rest is just little stuff by comparison. Yes, it is.
So you’re saying that because someone isn’t liberal enough, they are far, far, far to the right (Bush)? Cause that’s just at teensy bit of an exaggeration if you ask me.
Kucinich has a lot of good ideas. Not sure I like him as president though.
Brilliant! Go Dennis Go!
