The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Arcade Fire. The show’s up until Wednesday, April 16, so be sure to drop by and check out some awesome photos before then.
M&J do their thing. Said “thing” was a slow-tempo collection of romantic, whimsical tunes that found Mia swaying (perhaps a bit too theatrically) to Jonah’s rich, Damien Rice-esque guitar and vocals. And it wasn’t long before Koch was back onstage to join the pair in their warblings, then again to negotiate a second set list, which included twangy takes on classics from the one and only Tom Petty. Together, the threesome — who admitted to not knowing each other until just a month prior — filled the space with the warm, lush tunes that are beginning to embody what the series is all about: bringing only the best of S.B.’s up-and-coming young talent to an intimate showspace. Next week, check out yet another delightful double bill when The Merc plays host to
American Idol-style quest for a recording contract. The spin? Santa Barbara-bred — and
Go-Go Belinda Carlisle. The endeavor was much like any other on-air talent show of its kind: young, mildly gifted singers jumping in front of the camera to perform crummy covers of contemporary and aged pop songs. Except here, washed-up stars like
Dee Snider are on hand to fill their kids’ heads with empty nods of encouragement post-performance. While S.B.’s own heir to the ’80s soundtrack throne had a fairly solid showing (note: Loggins was the only competitor to strap on a guitar and show off any additional musical talents), it was Dee Snider’s boy, Jesse Blaze Snider, who won the night’s award for creepiest wardrobe choice. The bare-chested, leather-pants sporting Snider hit the stage running (and screaming) with his take on Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” undoubtedly scaring the judges into submission. The train wreck continues this Thursday at 10 p.m. on MTV. And online voting, cast bios, and video clips are available at mtv.com.

Just think, 30 years ago, Apple was born, bringing us personal computers. Now Microsoft and other companies are all eating Apple’s lunch. Go figure.
so is there a press conf. thingy today or what?
Wasn’t there suppose to be an Apple special event today? I was hoping to see previews of Leopard today and maybe a new iPod!
In the good they should have included:Mac OS XQuickTimeiMac G5 or currentiLife
No digg.Bashing the Quadra line because it was “ugly”? Back in the days these were top of the line computers, and they were really neatly designed, compared to their competitors. Hell, I still think the Quadra 900/950 has the best case design ever. Simple, basic, easy to open up and work inside. The Portable is not “cute” in today’s standards, but it was really small and handy back then. And was relatively powerful.Bashing the Newton because it was pricey? It was pricey compared to what? The Newton was the product that started the term “PDA”. There wasn’t anything comparable to this concept at that time, except for some even *pricier* products. Or just gadgets with less capabilities. Problematic OS? Yep, it was problematic. The first version, though there were six more versions of the Newton, AFAIR.Those guys behind this article seem to be a little off point, IMHO. It’s like they’ve just read a couple of posts on the Interweb and never actualy used the machines they’re talking about. I agree that Apple released some crappy products during those 30 years, but these are not the ones in this article.
I think I read in another article somewhere that they weren’t going to do an event on the 1st but rather the day or second day after because people that work for the company were on holiday because of this event. Expect to see something in the next few days.
I miss the QuickTake. I don’t know if any current *consumer-grade* digital cameras match its eloquence. I don’t think there were any other digital cameras out when the QuickTake was out. Apple probably didn’t think the market would boom the way it did many years after its death. Apple may be able to pull off bringing back the QuickTake to the market (with some iProduct name, of course).
No G3 PowerBooks on there? Like the wallstreet and pismo…I think they are some of their best looking machines ever…
