Storm damage derails 2 NJ Transit rail lines
NEWARK, N.J. - Storm damage has derailed the commute for thousands of NJ Transit riders.
Service is suspended on the Montclair-Boonton Line and likely will be throughout the morning rush.
There are delays of up to 2 hours on the Morris and Essex, including Midtown Direct from Dover to Gladstone.
NJ Transit spokesman Dan Stessel says the storm knocked down trees, which took out overhead power lines and signals.

July 4 travel could get tricky
Traffic flow through Highway 12 construction between Baraboo and Ho-Chunk Casino has been smooth, aside from a few tourist rushes on the weekends, Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials say.
But motorists traveling north toward Wisconsin Dells just before July 4 may have to find alternate routes, or pass through construction.
Because of rain delays, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation may amend its contract and allow the contractor to do Highway 12 road work on the days leading up to the holiday.
Though a final decision hasn't been made, the DOT may allow the contractor to work the Friday before July 4 — which falls on a Friday — as well as Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday just before the holiday.
"Fourth of July is a very, very strong time for Wisconsin Dells and we definitely see a spike in travel," said Melanie Platt-Gibson, marketing director for the Wisconsin Dells Visitor and Convention Bureau.
But Platt-Gibson said when July 4 falls on a Friday, Dells traffic normally doesn't see a spike until the day before — when road crews would be off.
The change isn't expected to cause major problems, said Sauk County Highway Commissioner Steve Muchow.
"I think what (the DOT has) recognized is a lot of people are avoiding the area so they haven't had the traffic buildups they thought they might have," Muchow said. "They're using different routes and they're staying away from the construction site."
If construction is allowed on the days before July 4, the DOT will keep an eye on traffic, DOT Consultant Project Manager Anne Wallace said in a construction update released Thursday. If DOT officials see traffic backups or safety concerns, the project will be shut down for the remainder of the week.

Delhi earns most, Mumbai spends most
NEW DELHI, June 3 (Xinhua) — A survey joined by the National Sample Survey Organization of India reveals that Delhi is the city that will make the most money in 2008-09. Mumbai will be the one spending the most, while Bangalore will be tops in saving.
The survey was based on data culled out of a survey of 600,000 urban Indian households by prominent government agencies to research how urban India is managing its money, the Hindustan Times reported Tuesday.
According to the study, the total income of Delhi district will top 1,260 billion rupees (30 billion U.S. dollars) this fiscal.
Mumbai (1,163 billion rupees or 27.7 billion U.S. dollars) is projected to come second, followed by Bangalore (602 billion rupees or 14.3 billion U.S. dollars).
At the bottom of the pile of 575 urban districts lie Jashpur inIndia’s central state Chhattisgarh, with total projected incomes of 0.8 billion rupees (20 million U.S. dollars).
On the savings front, Bangalore tops the study. People of India’s IT hub are projected to save the highest percentage of the district’s total income - 31.9 percent.
Where lavish spending is concerned, there’s no one to beat Mumbai, the report said. It is projected to save only 13.4 percent of its total income, spending 86.6 percent, which works out to a massive 1,006 billion rupees or 24 billion U.S. dollars.
However, Gandhinagar in India’s western state Gujarat will havet he highest per capita saving 52,679 rupees, or 1,250 U.S. dollars.

Will Michigan's Democrats count?
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Newschannel 3) - It’s a question that’s been in the minds of Michigan Democrats ever since the state’s primary was pushed up in January: Will our voices be heard at the Democratic National Convention?
This Saturday, it may be decided if the votes from Michigan and Florida will count at the convention. There’s wide belief right now that half the delegation will be restored at that point, but that’s not the solution most Democrats want.
Leaders in the Michigan Democratic Party tell Newschannel 3 that even if the rules committee doesn’t restore the entire delegation of Democrats, they’re confident a plan will eventually be accepted that would restore the entire delegation, giving the state full political power.
That would presumably happen if and when Sen. Obama becomes the nominee, as late as 60 days before the convention.
There are still a lot of big questions though, as lawyers for the Democratic National Committee are recommending that Michigan lose half of it’s delegation for breaking party rules.
“The attorneys don’t speak for the state of Michigan,” said Rep. Mike Sak, (D) Grand Rapids. “The full delegation will be seated and the voices that the citizens of Michigan have and the issues our citizens have will be heard, or they’re will definitely be consequences in the aftermath.”
State Democrats will present their plan this weekend, which is essentially a split of the delegates, 69 to 59 in favor of Clinton.
“We kind of split the difference between the delegate count, and we think it’s fair,” said Rep. Robert Jones, (D) Kalamazoo.
In the meantime, Republicans are hoping to take advantage of the long democratic primary, by building support for Sen. John McCain.
“Without question, there’s been the turmoil over this delegate situation,” said Rep. Rick Shaffer, (R) Three Rivers. “From my perspective, we in the Republican party need to step back and let the Democrats work through that delicate issue.”

Barack Obama Wins Wyoming Democratic Caucuses
Mar 8, 2008, 10:54 PM EST
Sen. Barack Obama is Wyoming’s Democrat victory Saturday, a boost in his efforts to regain momentum after a rough week that included controversies involving two of his top advisers and losses in three states.
“This is a big win for us,” David Plouffe, Obama’s campaign manager said.
Obama led Senator Hillary Clinton 61 percent to 38 percent.
Meanwhile, Clinton’s campaign sought to downplay the outcome, making the clear point that both candidates will gain roughly the same number of delegates due to the proportional way Democrats award them.
“We are thrilled with this near split in delegates and are grateful to the people of Wyoming for their support,” Clinton campaign manager Maggie Williams said.
The Democratic battle is now expected to drag well into the spring, after Clinton managed last week to breathe new life into her bid by winning perennial battleground of Ohio and massive Texas.
On Monday, Obama will head to Mississippi. Clinton, who already campaigned there last week, will head to Pennsylvania, where the next big contest will be held April 22.
After Wyoming, Obama holds the lead for delegates, 1,578 to 1,468. It takes 2,025 to win the nomination.

Beirut Unrest Kills 10 as Hezbollah Pressures Siniora (Update3)
May 9 (Bloomberg) — Gun battles raged across western and southern Beirut, leaving 10 people dead, as fighters from the Shiite group Hezbollah pressed their party's challenge to Lebanon's pro-Western government.
Masked bands of Shiite gunmen were shown by television networks as they roamed neighborhoods dominated by Sunni Muslims, who largely back Prime Minister Fouad Siniora's administration.
The army was deployed in parts of the capital to control the unrest. In addition to the deaths in Beirut in three days of violence, five civilians were hurt as fighting erupted in the Bekaa Valley, the International Committee of the Red Cross said.
“What's going on defies logic,'' Army Brigadier Saleh Haj Suleiman said today in a phone interview from Beirut. “The army is in control of Beirut, but there is sporadic gunfire and wherever there are clashes the army intervenes to try and calm the situation down.''
The crisis may intensify regional rivalries. Siniora's government is financially and militarily supported by the U.S., which considers Hezbollah a terrorist organization. Hezbollah is backed by Iran and Syria.
U.S. Republican presidential contender John McCain said today that the Bush administration should work immediately with the United Nations and Lebanon's neighbors to defuse the tensions. The Arizona senator said at a press conference in Columbia, South Carolina, that pressure should be brought on Syria, which he said is trying to “gain control of Lebanon.''
Hezbollah has been trying to oust the Siniora government for 18 months, since the militant Islamic group's lawmakers walked out of the cabinet after demanding veto powers over decisions. This week's unrest has been the most violent, as the political standoff spilled over into sectarian conflict.
The government dismissed reports by Lebanese news organizations favorable to Hezbollah or other opposition groups that Siniora's government was about to collapse.
“There is no resignation, no one in this government is resigning,'' Telecommunications Minister Marwan Hamadeh said today in a phone interview from Beirut.

Fla. university locked down after gun fired at campus party
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Authorities lifted a lockdown at Florida Atlantic University on Wednesday after apprehending a suspect in an overnight campus shooting, officials said.
Two shots were fired shortly after 1 a.m. at a party in the student apartments on the Boca Raton campus, campus Police Chief Charles Lowe said.
One person who is not a student was slightly injured, but it was not clear if that person was hit by a bullet, officials said.
Exams were canceled and the school used a newly installed alert system to tell students to stay in their dormitories while authorities searched the campus Wednesday morning. Classes were to resume Thursday, officials said.
Hours after the shooting, Omar Everton Graham Jr. was taken into custody in North Miami on the campus of Johnson & Wales University, said FAU Deputy Chief Keith Totten.
Totten told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that Graham, 23, of Royal Palm Beach, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon on campus in connection with the shooting.
Johnson & Wales, a private career school, issued a statement saying Graham was a student there.
No one answered a call to a phone listed under the name Omar E. Graham.
Soon after the early morning shooting, students were notified of an emergency by sirens, mass e-mails and announcements over the school’s public address system and they were warned to remain indoors.
The alert system was installed just 60 days ago and had not been fully tested.
“It seemed to work,” said FAU President Frank Brogan.
Brogan said fewer people were on campus than usual because it is FAU’s finals week.
Guns are not permitted at FAU.
