WEEKEND BOX-OFFICE

I completely agree with you, I was just put off by studboi69’s ignorance. Being a teenager myself, I’m constantly arguing with my friends about how ridiculous it is that they saw Superhero Movie or Prom Night. Which I guess is why they’re always telling me to become a film critic. But then again, you wouldn’t believe how many people in my school loved There Will Be Blood, Juno, and Atonoment. So rather than generalizing the youth as mindless, internet-fixed zombies, realize that they do know what quality is. At least I do, so let that be proof in itself.

If Prom Night, a movie that shares no story elements or characters from the original, aside from a prom, is considered a remake it baffles me.
If that is the case, this could be considered a remake of Sixteen Candles.
As for The Ruins, great film. The suspense was amazing. Subtle horror. The violence in the film actually added to the atmosphere and story as opposed to simply being there for shock value. Which seems to be rare these days.

PG-13 CRAP = # 1 MOVIE IN AMERICA
I’m not the slightest surprised that another PG-13 remake (and that’s precisely what it is despite them changing the premise) is number 1 at the box office. Lack of quality has yet to prevent any of these crap remakes to make number 1 in the box office.
Even if I had some interest in the film, the horrible script reviews followed by the reviews of the film itself would make it impossible for me to feel anything less than apprehension in sitting through so much as the opening credits.

All-Ireland Indoor Masters Track and Field Championships.
The All Ireland Indoor Masters Track and Field Championships were held in Nenagh Olympic Stadium last Saturday February 16. Ernie Caffrey, Ballina Athletic Club continues to rake in the medals. He left everyone in his wake when won gold in the 60m and 200m. Not content with field events, he also competed in the shot putt and took home a silver for his gallant efforts.
This is a great achievement for a man who took up running a few short years ago. He is travelling to France next month to take part in the indoor world championships. Good luck Ernie.
Gents: 1st Tony Cribben (21) 40 (back 6), 2nd Diarmuid Finnegan (8) 40 (back 9), 3rd Brian Phillips (11) 40. Ladies:1st Kay Buckley (16) 37, 2nd Mary H Morris (27) 36 (back 6), 3rd Mariette Potgeiter (20) 36 (back 9).
Last weeks 13-hole Stableford competition was won by Deirdre Moylett with 29pts and in second with 28pts (back nine) was Maura Phelan. Sunday February 17, 13 -hole Stableford was won by Maire Barry with 27pts (back 6) and in second also with 27pts, was Sarah Byrne. The sixth round of the league is complete and Mary Rose McNulty’s team are still out in front with Mary McHale’s team hot on her heels in second. Connie White’s team are lying in third place and Marie Rowley’s team are in fourth. With just two rounds left there is still everything to play for. And don’t forget the two worst scores have still to be deducted, which could make a huge difference in the final run-in. If you would like to play in the Daily Mail Fourball there is a sheet up on the notice board for you to put your name forward. A draw will be made for the two places on Friday Feburary 22.
