Star's sesame seeds fetch NT$40200 on auction site
Someone, apparently a fanatic fan of Jolin Tsai, has paid NT$40,200 to get 23 sesame seeds she was alleged to have dropped off on a paper napkin while she was munching her Kentucky Fried Chicken burger, the United Daily News reported yesterday.
Jolin is a very young pop singer, who has acquired a sizable following over the past five years.
But she denied through her agent she never ate at the chicken-burger outlet as was claimed. "It’s a fake," Jolin was quoted by her agent as saying. "They (sesame seeds) are not mine. I never visited that Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet."
The sesame seeds were put on an auction on Yahoo Kimo on March 17. The seller, identified only as qqboya, only showed the 23 seeds on a paper napkin online.
The floor price was NT$1 a seed. In its sales pitch, the seller claimed he saw Jolin at a Taipei Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet on March 14.
He took a picture of the paper napkin with the sesame seeds and told would-be buyers he watched Jolin munch the chicken burger with gusto.
Are they the seeds Jolin actually dropped?
"I am an honest dealer," said the seller. "I didn’t take a picture of Jolin eating the chicken burger," he went on, adding: "I can only swear that Jolin dropped them."
The seller also recommended that Henry Lee, a Chinese-born forensic expert in the United States, be asked to run a DNA test on the sesame seeds in question.
Lee was invited back to Taiwan in 2004 to run a series of forensic tests for the mystery-shrouded shooting in Taiwan. One homemade bullet grazed President Chen Shui-bian’s abdomen in what police described as an assassination attempt on the eve of the 2004 presidential election. Chen was reelected, thanks to sympathy votes cast on the following day.

Cap fits Masters winner
All I wear on my head when I’m playing golf is the wife’s thumbprint - “make sure you’re back to pick the kids up nag dinag dinag.”
Professional golfers, though, carefully choose their headgear - first because it provides extra advertising space and, second, because it invariably hides a hair cut that time forgot. Tiger Woods(left) with a cap is Will Smith - cool; bare-headed he’s the school poindexter. Bookies are betting on what headwear the US Masters winner will sport when he holes his final shot on Sunday, with a cap the red-hot 1-6 favourite and a visor 6-1. No headgear at all is the 8-1 third favourite.
Last year’s winner Zach Johnson was such a Godbotherer that I half-expected him to be wearing a halo instead of a cap.

Prince of pop returns to musical roots
Down dooby doo down down, comma comma
Down dooby doo down down …
SOME readers may be mystified by the above nonsense, but baby boomers won’t need any further introduction to Neil Sedaka than the opening sounds of his 1962 pop classic Breaking Up is Hard to Do.
During his 50 years in the music business, the singer-songwriter has had dozens of hits and sold millions of records; his songs have been covered by performers ranging from the Carpenters to Frank Sinatra. He even has a street named after him in Brooklyn, New York.
Few artists would have survived Sedaka’s roller-coaster career: after initial pop success at a very young age, he disappeared from the charts in the mid-1960s. He spent a decade in the wilderness: the "hungry years" when he performed at leagues clubs and had only two hit songs.
Then in 1975 he came back with a vengeance, returning to gold and platinum sales with his Solitaire album, the song Laughter in the Rain and the enormous international success of Grammy-winner Love Will Keep Us Together for the Captain and Tennille.
He describes himself as a fighter, a survivor and an optimist.
"Australia has been very wonderful to me over the years," he says by phone from New York. "I have a very warm relationship with Australia, it’s an ongoing love affair."
Sedaka never lost his enthusiasm for work and is looking forward to collaborating with orchestras across the country, performing old hits and new compositions. The tour begins with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, which will premiere Sedaka’s first classical piece, Joie de Vivre.
"It goes back to my roots," he says. "I started out as a classical pianist at Juilliard School in New York."
Born in 1939, Sedaka was a prodigy from a working class family in Brooklyn. He had ambitions to become a concert pianist and practised for hours each day on a second-hand piano. His parents were shocked when at 13 he began writing pop songs.

A night of "wow" on the dance floor
The competition was on last night during “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew,” as the remaining three dance crews awaited their fate in regards to next week’s Season Finale show.
The show started off as Kaba Modern, JabbawockeeZ, and Status Quo waited for the results from last week’s performances. Host Mario Lopez soon revealed that Status Quo would be moving on to the end, with a guaranteed spot. That meant that Kaba Modern and JabbawockeeZ had to duke it out on the dance floor to win the judges over.
First, Status Quo performed their pop-n-lock routine, which honestly wasn’t even that spectacular. They earned their spot into the Top 2 based on popularity, but as far as technique and precision is concerned, Kaba and Jabba are way ahead of them.
Next were the JabbawockeeZ. They danced to the same soundtrack, which was part of this week’s theme. And, wow, were they amazing. They were energized, unique, completely in sync (literally and figuratively, as last night’s music featured a snippit from “Bye, Bye,Bye,” a good laugh for judge J.C. Chasez).
They ended their routine amazingly, with all of the crew going out into the crowd, pumping fans up, while just one member remained on stage spinning on his head for at least two minutes. That’s right, on his head! It was amazing and everyone watching new that was a performance that couldn’t be beat.
After the ultimate praise from the three judges, former N’Sync member J.C. Chasez, singer/rapper Lil’Kim and hip-hop choreographer Shane West, it was time for Kaba Modern to try and top the Jabbas.
And, boy, did they put up a good fight. They came out and blew the crowd away like they did every week. Precision, accuracy in their moves, and lots of energy. They’ve always been our favorite, and truly belong in the Top 2 show.
